Helly Hansen
In 1877, capitan Helly Juell Hansen founded the firm Helly Hansen to create the first waterproof clothing, thanks to a layer of oil applied to it. In 1924, HH made the breakthrough in terms of waterproof clothing with the material Linox. The smelly layer of oil became therefore a thing of the past. The next milestone goes back to 1961, the year of the invention of fibrepile, the first technical isolating material made of man-made fibre, which was developed for outdoor usage. It is light, keeps warm, is extremely fast-drying and suits therefore perfectly as isolating layer underneath weather protection jackets. In 1974, Helly Hansen presents together with LIFA the first technical function underwear line and is once more invention catalyst. Today, Helly Hansen is seen as inventor of the 3-layer system and is one of the leaders in terms of technical outdoor brands worldwide.
